Email notifications for PowerSync Cloud instance alerts

DATE:
AUTHOR: PowerSync Product Team

You can now enable email notifications for any alert configured for your PowerSync Cloud instances. Instead of manually checking the dashboard, you can now get notified via email whenever an alert, such as a database connection or data replication problem, on your instance fires or clears. These email notifications are available for all users.

Customers on our Pro, Team and Enterprise plans continue to also have access to webhooks to forward alerts to external systems.

Get Started

Email notifications can be enabled in the dashboard as Email Rules. Here's what a typical configuration looks like:

  1. Navigate to the Manage instances workspace, and set up one or more issue alerts for your instance. These can report errors and warnings for the connection between your instance and backend database, giving you added peace of mind.

  2. If you are on our Team and Enterprise plans, you can also set up usage alerts to notify of any usage-related spikes or drops (for example, exceeding your expected concurrent connections).

  3. Add an email rule and subscribe to the alert categories you want to get notified on:

    • Note that on our Free plan you are limited to one email rule.

For full details of PowerSync's monitoring and alerting functionality see the docs.

Other Improvements

  1. The dashboard now includes additional date and time display settings, for example, whether to display times in UTC or your current timezone. UTC is handy when you need to line up dashboard events with times from alert notifications or collaborate across time zones. These can be configured in the IDE Settings (open them quickly with the command palette, SHIFT+SHIFT), or use the shortcuts in the dashboard's footer.

  2. Richer usage alert config for Team and Enterprise customers:

    • We’ve added a Window field so you can specify how many minutes of data to look at when checking a metric.

    • A Calculation option lets you choose whether we compare the average, maximum, or minimum value from that window to your alert threshold.

    • See more details about Usage alerting here.
